A Note to the Hard Worker

With the constant desire for growth, ambition, future success and freedom, I often find myself and those around me neglecting to truly digest this absolutely stunning world we live in.

Everyday there is the struggle to work harder than the day before and to prove to oneself that you can achieve whatever it is you put your mind to and work for. But then, it only takes a sunset, the stars, or watching animals beautifully grace the earth to seemingly loose ones breath and remember how precious life is. Every second, every breath, is disappearing. Obvious I know, but terrifyingly real. It’s gone, truly gone.

Now I am all for taking action and making hard work your best friend. There is no room for ambition if you are not willing to work for it. Though it saddens me when I get lost in the momentum of work and realise I have lost a day, a week or even years of truly being alive -Truly feeling the full spectrum of experience. I guess what I am trying to say is I have not yet discovered the balance of striving as best as you can towards your goals, while remaining totally present. I don’t even know if it’s possible?

I realise now more than ever that life is not fair and is not to be taken for granted. Too often we complain about the most mundane things, and yet leave no room to communicate the simplest beauties we encounter every single day. Just look to the stars, and remember you are looking at the past. I find no other way grounds me quicker from a ruminating brain attempting to tick boxes and achieve goals in the most economic way.

To all of those who are working day and night to get to where you want to be, I respect each and everyone of you. But I really hope you’re making time in that over committed schedule to appreciate this one life you have. Because in reality we are all slowly dying, and we don’t have any clue when the final curtain will close. So don’t waste a breath on useless drama. Work on your weaknesses, push for that one extra rep, and then let it all go and just be. Remind the people (yourself included) that you love them in whatever way resonates with you. Do not let your desire for success overtake your love of life.
